MakerBot Teams with Martha Stewart to Bring New Filament Options and 3D Printable Designs to Users

In what could be seen as a partnership between giants, today Makerbot and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. (MSLO) have announced a partnership to bring new 3D printing materials and 3D printable designs to market.

Martha Stewart has long been known to be a major proponent of 3D printing technology. She has been seen at trade shows, as well as heard discussing the tremendous benefits of this relatively new technology. MakerBot is currently the leading manufacturer of consumer level 3D printers, and is a subsidiary of parent company Stratasys (SSYS).

Terms of the agreement will see a new Martha Stewart for MakerBot Filament come to market for users wishing to print with Martha Stewart custom colors. It will also introduce new 3D printable designs created by Martha Stewart Living, to the MakerBot Digital Store.

“We are big fans of Martha Stewart and her thematic designs,” explained Jenny Lawton, acting CEO of MakerBot. “We think her creations and colors are a natural fit for 3D printing. Seeing a renowned lifestyle brand such as MSLO introduce 3D printable merchandise is a true testament to their company’s innovative outlook. By working with the MSLO team, we’re able to broaden our reach and bring Martha Stewart’s design aesthetic to an entirely new audience.“

As of today, three new Martha Stewart filament colors will be available to purchase both online and in MakerBot retail stores located in New York, Boston, and Greenwich, Connecticut. These colors include Jadeite, Lemon Drop and Robin’s Egg. The filament is priced at $25 for a small 0.22 kg spool, and $65 for a larger 0.90 kg spool. MakerBot MakerClub members can also take a 10% discount off these prices.

In addition, the new Martha Stewart Trellis Collection is available for MakerBot users to download and print at home via the MakerBot Digital Store. This initial collection includes a napkin ring, place card holder, LED votive holder, and a coaster. They can be purchased for $0.99 each or all four designs can be had for a discounted price of $2.99.

“We are thrilled to work with MakerBot to bring our signature color palette and designs to the world of 3D printing,” noted Martha Stewart, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of MSLO. “3D printing allows for cost-effective product design without compromising artisanal character. With this partnership, we are able to leverage our expertise and expand our business into the exciting new 3D printing category.”

It should be interesting to see how this partnership evolves. We should expect to see more designs and more color options released in the coming months ahead. Which Martha Stewart colors would you like to see added as filament options? Which types of designs do you hope are added to the digital store? Discuss in the MakerBot / Martha Stewart partnership forum thread on 3DPB.com.
