Kodak Showcasing Its Impressive 3D Printing Ecosystem at CES 2018

In October, Kodak announced that it was expanding to the 3D printing world. The imaging technology company’s 3D Printing Ecosystem is for professional 3D printing, and was created for design, education, and engineering professionals. As part of the ecosystem, which includes specialized software and a line of premium, low moisture content 3D Printing Filaments, Kodak also introduced its new dual-extruder Kodak Portrait 3D Printer, which is fully enclosed and compact enough to sit on a desk. The Portrait 3D printer will be officially launched this week at the upcoming CES 2018 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Kodak is in the middle of two main releases at the moment, and the new Portrait 3D printer will be one of the flagship products showcased at Kodak’s 50′ x 50′ booth at CES 2018 this week.

As larger companies continue to enter the 3D printing space, more and more of them are looking to integrate the technology into their workflows. So, it stands to reason that there’s a lot of 3D printing going on outside of the CES show’s main 3D printing section, and you don’t want to miss it. For instance, Kodak’s booth #20612 is located in the South Hall 1 at the show, which is not in the 3D Printing Marketplace in the North Hall.

“With our prominent booth at the South Hall, we are seeking to bring more professionals to additive manufacturing,” Demian Gawianski, the COO of Kodak 3D Printing, told 3DPrint.com.

The accurate and reliable Kodak Portrait 3D Printer was built for productivity and has a lot to offer, including a large build volume of 200 x 200 x 250 mm (8″ x 8″ x 10″), an end-of-filament sensor, and a nozzle-wiping mechanism to prevent color contamination; the latter two features are thanks to the 3D printer’s dual extruders.

Both the hot ends and the heated, aluminum print bed attach with magnets, and the Portrait 3D printer also has an automatic print bed leveling system. It’s perfect for use in the classroom, lab, or office, thanks to a HEPA/activated carbon filter and an extractor fan, which regulates the build chamber’s temperature. The Portrait also features a multi-language, color touch screen, and a 5″ HDMI screen as well.

Additional features include:

  • 60 lbs, due to its solid, all-steel structure
  • Auto calibration and leveling
  • 5 mpx camera
  • Transparent paneling
  • Raspberry Pi 3 and 32 bit Smoothieboard 5XC processors

What makes the release of the Portrait even more interesting is that this year, Kodak is turning 130 years old, and is celebrating the milestone birthday with the release of its new Super 8, as well as the company’s first 3D printer, the Portrait.

As Gawianski told us, these special birthday releases show that the company “honors its history by continuing to innovate towards the technologies of the future.”

If you want to check out Kodak’s 3D Printing Ecosystem for yourself, which includes the new Portrait 3D printer, line of filaments, and software, stop by the company’s booth #20612, located in the South Hall 1. Any Portrait 3D printers that were pre-ordered in November will ship this March.

CES 2018 will kick off tomorrow, and run through this Friday, January 12th. Don’t forget, 3DPrint.com will also be at CES this week, bringing you all of the latest product and technology news right from the showroom floor.
