Asimov Ventures Announces Close of Venture Fund I to New Investors, Launch of Venture Fund II

Founded just last summer, early stage venture capital firm Asimov Ventures has already witnessed an incredible amount of growth. The firm, focusing on early stage investments in 3D printing, robotics, and other frontier technologies, has now announced that it has closed its first fund (Asimov Ventures I) to new investors, following recent investments from limited partners. Asimov Ventures II will now launch.

“We are thrilled with our investments in Fund I and the interest Asimov Ventures has generated in the 3D Printing and Robotics start up communities. We recognize the importance of additive manufacturing and robotics and feel that Asimov Ventures is setting the standard in these VC segments,” stated Alan M. Meckler, General Partner.

We have been closely following this unique VC firm since its beginnings, as Asimov Ventures has been investing in the winners of the Startup Competition at Inside 3D Printing conferences, including such companies as Metamason, Wiivv Wearables, CleverPet, and Dog Parker. Wiivv, for example, represented the first investment for Asimov Ventures, and following this VC’s interest, six other funds followed suit, including Real Ventures and Eclipse, leading to a $3.5 million seed funding round last year. Initial funding from Asimov Ventures has led to increased interest in several companies in its investment portfolio, including Metamason, which announced a $3 million seed funding round earlier this year. Additional investments in the company’s portfolio include Collider, Sadako Technologies, and Additive Orthopaedics, which has seen several successful FDA approvals recently and is readying for further investment.

“Without exception all of our investments have been validated by significant business development agreements and subsequent funding,” John Meckler explains. “Additive Orthopaedics and CleverPet have come to market with impressive revenue out of the gate. Sadako, Wiivv, and Collider have been recognized for their trailblazing innovation and are all working with multinationals on a formal basis to develop their tech. Dog Parker and MetaMason have taken investment from some very smart money. We’ve seen valuations rise across the board.”

Asimov Ventures, based in New York City, New York and in Seattle, Washington, is seeing success through its focus on frontier technology. In just a few weeks, the next Startup Competition, having been renamed the Frontier Tech Showdown, will take place at Inside 3D Printing San Diego. The winner of the Showdown will join the illustrious group of successful startups with the latest awarding of a $15,000 uncapped SAFE from Asimov Ventures. Together, previous winners from these startup competitions have raised $37 million following their victories, and we have had the opportunity to follow up with several winners to more closely understand the boost such wins have brought to their businesses.

“Asimov Ventures continues to have a unique place in the VC world being the only VC devoted to investing in start ups in the 3D Printing and Robotics space,” Alan Meckler tells 3DPrint.com.

The Frontier Tech Showdown will occur on December 14th in San Diego, starting at 4.25 pm. 3DPrint.com will be on the scene to keep up to date with the latest in frontier technology startups — and remember our readers can save 15% on registration by using the code ‘3DPRINT’ at checkout.

With the second fund opening to new investors, it’s clear we will only continue to hear more from this venture capital firm — and all the frontier technology they are helping to reach success. For additional information about Asimov Ventures, please visit www.asimovventures.com or email info@asimovventures.com.
