There are many 3D printing service bureaus in existence, but Voodoo Manufacturing has always stood out for its ambition, going far beyond simply producing parts for customers. The New York-based company, formed in 2015, wants to transform manufacturing – and if that sounds like something that every manufacturing company says, Voodoo Manufacturing is actually doing it, or at least working towards it. The company is trying to make digital manufacturing a truly viable alternative to traditional manufacturing, and is doing so through initiatives like its Project Skywalker, a fully automated robotic 3D printer cluster.
Now Voodoo Manufacturing is taking on traditional manufacturing again with its new large format 3D printing service. The company has acquired 10 Raise3D N2 Plus 3D printers. The N2 Plus features a massive build area of 305 x 305 x 610 mm (12″ x 12″ x 24″) and is compatible with most filaments on the market, so it’s about as versatile as a 3D printer can get. It was named Best Overall in Make: Magazine’s 2017 3D Printer Guide, and Voodoo Manufacturing is thrilled to be offering its capabilities to customers.
“The launch of our Large Format 3D Printing service makes it easier and faster for our customers to bring their biggest, most creative ideas to life,” Jonathan Schwartz, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Voodoo Manufacturing, told 3DPrint.com. “We can’t wait to see all the innovative ways they’ll take advantage of this new capability.”
Voodoo’s standard 3D printers have a build volume of 10.5″ x 5.5″ x 6″, so N2 Plus printers offer a major increase – nearly eight times the size that was available before, in fact. As an example, Voodoo Manufacturing 3D printed a 6’1″ mannequin on its standard 3D printers, which required it to be printed in 88 pieces. The company then 3D printed it on the N2 Plus, which required that it be split into only 19 pieces. Fewer parts means easier assembly, fewer visible seams, better overall part strength and higher visual quality. Not to mention all the prints that can now be printed in one piece, as well.
“3D printing gives you freedom to explore products you might not have thought possible, or ideas you discarded due to manufacturing complexity,” stated Voodoo Manufacturing. “With large format printing, you can push the boundary even further and explore projects of a new scale. Ultimately, we want to empower you to focus on building the product you want, instead of letting the product be dictated by the manufacturing method; to bridge the gap between idea and product.”
Customers who can benefit from the new large format 3D printing service include those looking to print architectural models, custom signs and product displays, custom mannequins, component housings, furniture prototypes, or other large parts. In addition, Voodoo Manufacturing is offering a five-day turnaround for large format 3D prints.
“We hope that providing our customers the ability to manufacture large parts will enable new applications for our service that weren’t possible before,” said Schwartz. “With this launch, we want to attract new customers, but also provide existing customers with yet another reason to keep coming back to Voodoo!”
