Like I have mentioned before, one of my favorite uses for my 3D printer is that of toy making. I have an adorable 4-year-old nephew, and when I first got my 3D printer I experimented with it by creating a toy for him. Since then, he has come to expect Aunt Brittney to bring over another 3D printed toy every time he sees me, which is quite often. Perhaps I’m spoiling him, but what are Aunts for?
As the technology develops, the capabilities and detail of these toys will undoubtedly progress, while interesting new applications will also come about. One such application is a smartphone app called Toyze. Launched back in the middle of this year, the company allows smartphone gamers to customize some of their favorite characters, save them to their phone or tablet, and eventually have them 3D printed for a service fee. Over the last few months, Toyze has continued its expansion, offering a variety of new mobile gaming characters for customization, including popular characters from ‘Cut The Rope’, ‘Poo’, and several others.
Today, one of the world’s most recognizable fictitious celebrities, Outfit7’s ‘Talking Tom Cat’ has been added to the Toyze digital collection. With over 2 billion worldwide ‘Talking Tom’ applications downloaded over the last several years, if you haven’t heard of this lovable character, then you are either living under a rock or have never used a smartphone before. ‘Talking Tom Cat’ is basically a cat which mimics everything you say, while also allowing gamers to interact with him via touch.
The ‘Talking Tom’ character is available for download, customization, and 3D printing on Toyze immediately, with other members of the Talking Tom, and Friends cast coming soon to the Toyze app.
The way the app works is quite simple. Users select a game, and then a character within that game. They will then be presented with a variety of customization options such as clothing, accessories and the character’s pose. Once finished, they can save that customized character to their personal collection, with an option to have that character 3D printed and then delivered to their doorstep for a small fee.
Mobile gaming is incredibly popular now-a-days with characters within the games developing followings similar to television personalities and cartoons. Toyze has caught on to this trend and has utilized 3D printing as a means to monetize their free application. The application is a blast to use whether you intend to 3D print your creations or not. Look for additional characters and games to come to the Toyze mobile platform in the coming weeks and months ahead. Currently Toyze is available only on Android devices, with plans to launch on iOS sometime in the future.
